Long Weekend, by Russ

Where to begin. I had planned on doing an open letter to ESPN, explaining to them just why Lou Holtz (from here forth dubbed, Loose Bolts) and Mark May are just unwatchable. (I mean I turn the channel every time I see one of them. Having Billy Mays yell at me is more pleasant.) But my boys let me down this weekend.

Sorry, losing would have been a let down. Getting beat like a rented mule is closer to reality. It's like the team never showed up. Shit. I take some solace in the fact that my Professional team, the New York Football Giants, had their time in the barrel last season and finished with the ring. It's only one game. One really, really bad game. (Worst part was there is no alcohol allowed on my diet, so I couldn't even drink my way to a win.)

On the positive side of the ledger: My folks are back from Egypt. They brought back some goodies for all of us (and none of it is contagious). We all got the required tee shirts (that I will no doubt not fit in because there are no six foot four 230 pound people who live in other countries). The Wife got a Jade necklace (had her choice of that, a silver [not really silver, but I can't remember the type of metal], or a camel bone). I got some culinary stuff. A vanilla bean and two tablespoons of saffron. Mr. B got a wooden crocodile (that he is terrified of! It is really funny!). Miss L got her tee shirt, but they couldn't find anything age appropriate for her.

Then, there was the bbq, which, while not my best effort, was pretty damn good if I say so myself. But then bbq is a lot like sex. Even bad bbq is better than no bbq.

i guess you might be aware that utah beat michigan in michigan....i might have said that to my blogger more than once....i might have even said it to you rsss

I was aware of that! Michigan is very low on my favorite teams list, so when they lose, I'm happy. Utah should have a pretty good team this year, BYU/Utah might be a barn burner.

Hi Russ - I'm a Clemson girl too. In fact when my Alabama friends parked their car at my house for the game... I painted it. I've got a picture on my blog. I wasn't being a sore looser. Swear.

Dude, not a college football fanatic like the rest, however I'll pick up a UCLA game or whoever is trying to beat USC once in awhile. But Amen, to the bbq quote. There is just something about a good grilled whatever that makes it taste out of this world...

Managed to avoid all college football this weekend. Did indulge in BBQ -- and had a cigarette after.

Russ said...

Ms Picket: I spent enough time in the heady cloud of hickory smoke that no cigarette was needed.

I am thanking my boys for the rout they gave Hawaii....and cheering on UCLA and the AMAZING game they had! I hate, hate, HATE UT!

So no Camel Spiders huh?? Good. Oh, and I see we'll be sending Hanna up to see you at the end of the week as well. It's ok, we can spare a storm or two....we have Ike and Josephine coming over to us anyway.

Mike: UCLA had a good game! I missed most of it. The wife and I collapsed after company left.

Blonde: I turned off the UF game, I needed to get some yard work done so I could watch the drubbing. UF was up a bunch at that point anyway.

As to the storms, well, we need the rain, but if Hanna would be so kind as to just put it in the lakes and reservoirs we would greatly appreciate it. A little on the lawns would be good too.

how could blondefab hate hate hate utah...what di utah ever do to her?????they all eat jello on that team, and she hates them...she is from down florida, whay should she care what michagan does?????that really flustrates me

Russ said...

Putz: the UT Blonde was referring to was the University of Tennessee, not Utah. At least I see how you got there. I'm the one who doesn't care for Mich. I grew up around too many Miami, Penn St., Mich., and Notre Dame fans. All of them obnoxious and thus detest all of their sports programs. S. Car is a recent addition to that list, although they are a bit out of place among the aforementioned schools.

I would like to think BBQ and sex have nothing in common because I don't like BBQ.

Laggin, I'm sorry to hear that! At least I hope it mean that you like sex, though.
