Hollywood, for all that it is, seems to just turn out uninteresting pictures (to me anyway). This is not a rip on Hollywood, they simply are making movies for whomever shows up at the box office. Mostly teenagers. So this means that we have to wait for stuff we want to see.
This weekend, finally, a movie we want to see. Angels and Demons opens. Yes I know, it is getting only average reviews, but the Wife and I enjoy Dan Brown's books. Yes they are a tad formulaic, the Wife and I enjoy them in spite of that fact.
Add to that, we did the A&D tour of Rome before it became popular to do so. We simply reread the book, making notes as to where they went. We then retraced Langdon's steps through Rome. We had to omit some of the Vatican scenes as they were either a) permanently off limits to commoners such as ourselves, or b) closed to the public for a rather happy coincidence. So instead of doing that we took in Mass at St. Peters.
I suppose the saying "happy coincidence" may or may not be appropriate. You see, the Vatican was mostly closes because all of the Cardinals were in town. To elect a new Pope. So the mood was definitely somber. It was historic and really cool at the same time.
While at Mass, another happy coincidence here, we happened to sit next to an English speaking seminary student. He was giving play by play to his friends as to what was happening and more interestingly, the players. We got a full breakdown of all the favorites to become the new Pope. So we saw the Pope! He was just Cardinal Ratzenburger at the time.
I could go on, but I would just start to bore you, I'm sure. So I'll leave you with the result of the Cardinals first vote:

Have a super date! We are going out tonight to a gourmet pizza place and to shop for my birthday gift. All I can say is, there'd better be some extracurricular activity tonight or I will be pissed.
bow-chikka-wow-wow...
Date night! Cool! I should be doing that tonight, but alas...... it is not to be! 9 years together and all we get is pizza and a soda!
While everyone else is all "jump her bones"...I like the Rome part of this. I loved that book until the jump out of the helicopter and then I was all...no, no, NO, he did not just go, "Oh look I wrote the required 376 pages, I must end the story NOW.)
Hey Laggin! I loved Rome. Incredible city. Great food. Sights are overwhelming. (But I would go back to Tuscany first.) Doing the A&D tour was really interesting. And he did seem to end the story rather abruptly.
u catholics really interest me...you are the only church that holds your pope up like we do our prophets
Late to the party, but I hope you had a fun date.
Also, that must have been cool to see the Vatican during papal selection.
