So I had written a post about the woes of the past week and change. It was a little too incoherent, even by my standards, so I decided to drop it and rewrite.
When last we met, the plumber had discovered a second hole in the pipe and had capped it off. Then we were then going to let the hole dry out for a couple of days.
The plumber was due to show up on Wednesday afternoon. So I let the kids play for a little while at the pool before heading home. Only to have no one show up.
I call him and he is appologetic, saying he forgot my number (lost it really). That annoyed me a bit. So he said he would be here first thing the next day. I told him that the kids have swim lessons and to make it 10am instead.
He shows at 1pm.
He works for a while, then it is time to test the lines again. It didn't take long to hear the words I have learned to dread, "Not again".
It seems that there was a third pin hole leak in the pipe. At this point we had to reevaluate how we are going to attack the issue. The leak was under my living room and I really didn't want to tear up the carpet or hard wood (depending on where the pipe went).
We decided on a new tact and he headed out for the day to pick up the needed parts and to return first thing.
First thing is the crack of nine evidently. (It might have been later, I don't really remember.)
We ended up running a new pipe to the bathroom. Having it in the ceiling was proving to be too time consuming, so the new piping is exposed. (We will be consealing it shortly, but for the moment it is available for all to see.)
The Wife and I were talking last night. We came to the conclusion that we could have paid for a year of my schooling or paid off her student loans with the money that we spent on plumbing just this year. Other things we 'discovered': should we build a house, it will have a basement or a crawlspace (a large crawl space at that) and we desparately need a vacation (that we cannot afford).
Go ahead....

Dude! Sorry to hear about that! Here's hoping the rest of 2011 is dry!
Again...so glad I've skipped out on home ownership.
Ok, that was painful to read, let alone live through. I love how plumbers make over $100/hour, don't you?
I honestly never heard of a house WITHOUT a basement until I saw Breaking Bad (which, for the record, is awesome).
Sorry for your luck.
