Happy 4th by Russ

I trust all of you had a nice long weekend.  It certainly was around here.  The kids were not too whiny, and actually played well together.  The Wife did arts and crafts with them, while I took the pooch on short walks (I wanted long walks, but there is no way she would have lasted).

Heck, I even did some arts and crafts with the kids.  We made silicone molds of a couple of their toys.  (A My Little Pony for Miss L and Lightning McQueen for the boy.)  Both of them turned out remarkably well.  The only issue was that I tore the pony mold when removing the toy.  It still held chocolate when the time came.

Mr. B ripped his mold trying to see inside of it.  Fortunately, that was after I had filled it with chocolate.  That will teach me to leave things where he can get at them (which is becoming harder and harder to do, btw).

So after coughing up $20, I have a half of a bag of Ghirardelli chips and two ripped molds.  Each used once.  Not good bang for my buck.   The kids had fun, and that is all that matters.

I also tried my hand at beef brisket on the grill.  I won't call it 'Texas Brisket' in deference to those who actually know what they are doing with that cut of meat.

I was amazed at how quickly it cooked at a low temperature.  This, of course, having to do with it being a big, yet relatively thin piece of meat.  (The pork butt being much thicker and having a bone in it, slows the cooking process down.)  For a first go at it, it was good.  Scarily, better than some brisket I 've had in bbq joints.  That is not to say I am satisfied.

I'm torn on whether I should try it again.  Pushing me to do it again is that I know I can do it better.  Stopping me is that I can't see how it will be better, or even as good as, my bbq pork.

I never could get into brisket. Shoulder & pork butt was always tastier to me!

I can't comment on any of this. I'm clueless about what you're talking about.....silicone molds that hold chocolate? texas brisket?

Sounds like a fun and yummy weekend. And I bet if your work really hard at it you can find something to do with the leftover chocolate. Snack, perhaps?

How exactly does one go about making brisket?
