Started School by russ

Yep, I started school this week.  I'm doing all on line, which is spooking me just a bit.  As much as I didn't care for actually going to class, there was something comforting (for lack of a better word) about having a dedicated area for study.  Now, it is right on my computer with all of the distractions that it entails.

I got emailed my syllabus and I check the university website for my homework.  It seems to be pretty self-directed, for better or worse.  Or at least requiring self discipline.  Not one of my strong suits.  There appears to be no lectures but we do have a forum to have discussions regarding the week's topic.

This week's topic:  PowerPoint.  It is a good tool.

I have to make a PowerPoint presentation (minimum of five slides) about myself.  (Great) And write a paper about why it is a good tool.

As far as I'm concerned PowerPoint sucks.  All too often, it is used as a crutch.  A lazy man's (or woman's, both genders are at fault here) way to make a presentation.  I pride myself on the fact that in the 10 or so years that I was gainfully employed (damn, I've been a SAHD over half as long as I was employed), you could count on one hand the total number of PPT presentations I have made.

Eh, I'll play the game.  Feed them what they want to hear, unless they are wrong (the faults with PPT are mostly user errors, it is just a tool and only does what it is instructed).

The Wife said if I add sound effects to the presentation, she will leave me.  While I have no desire for her to leave me, that kind of temptation is awfully hard to resist.

You could always do the assignment ironically! BTW, my daughter's middle school had he do power point all 3 years she was there, and now her high school actually has a class dedicated to teaching the kids power point so they can use it for their projects. LOL!!

As long as you use animations in between every slide and every bullet, you're good.

SFD is right. Animation, lots of "fly-in"s and if you could imbed a clip from a movie, it'd be just like being back in corporate America.

The exact same thing as Blonde said happened to my kids!

And you totally need sound effects!

There's nothing wrong with...it's a good tool but a frequently misused tool as your theme. Right?

Pearl cracked me up.
